The old one:
"Poems" by Eduard Moerike. Poetry that leaves even the same sugary taste like freshly painted cookies, sometimes as cold as mulled wine is stale. Too much of it, and one is bad. But right dosage, the head and heart equally pleased. Kitsch has just feeling best when the world draußen in schimmerndes Weiß hüllt.
The new one:
"Puder - Sleeping Beauty in the Valley of the Wild, Wild pigs" von Tor Age Bringsvaerd. P (sprich: Pi) arbeitet in einem Verlag und stellt Produkte her, die Büchern gar nicht so unähnlich sind. Wären die Handlungsstränge nicht von Computern vorprogrammiert. Doch Ps Aufgabe ist es, den gewissen Klecks Wahn auf die aalglatte Leinwand der Literatur zu spritzen. Ihre ganz own slightly skewed world view (is the humanity in fact not a single large, intergalactic pig gang?) helps her. Sometimes, at least.
The borrowed one:
"freedom" by Jonathan Franzen. Do I have to say much about the great American Familieneops? I think not. A lot of characters, more plot lines, like small matryoshka dolls nested within one another, and a certain portion Gesellschaftskritik. Wo Franzen draufsteht, ist Franzen drin.
The blue one:
"Das lange Lied eines Lebens" von Andrea Levy. Darf man noch nicht viel zu sagen, da das Ganze erst am 8. März 2011 erscheint. So viel sei allerdings verraten: Wer anspruchsvolle Schmöker à la Kehlmann sucht, für den lohnt sich eine Vorbestellung beim Buchhändler des Vertrauens.
